Lite, Basic, or Premium? How to Actually Pick the Right KRUU Package for Your Event

Real talk: one of the most common reasons people have a less-than-amazing experience with a photo booth rental, ours or anyone else's, is a package mismatch. They book one thing, expect another, and end up disappointed on a day they really wanted to be perfect.

This post exists so that doesn't happen to you. Here's exactly what each KRUU package includes, who it's actually right for, and some real scenarios to help you decide.

The quick-and-dirty summary

  • Lite: digital photos only, no printer. Great for small or casual events.
  • Basic: standard printer, unlimited 4x6 prints. The sweet spot for most events.
  • Premium: high-speed printer, extra layouts, insurance, duplicate reprints. Best for big events or when you just want the full experience.

The Lite Package

Lite is the most budget-friendly option, and for the right event, it's genuinely all you need.

Here's what's included:

  • HD camera with flash and live view
  • 12 layouts and 100+ design templates
  • QR code instant download at the event (guests save photos to their phones on the spot)
  • Online gallery in the KRUU app, available after the booth is returned and processed
  • Paper props for extra fun
  • Free UPS shipping both ways

What's NOT included: a printer. Guests enjoy digital photos only.

Lite is your best bet if: you have under 50 guests, your crowd is comfortable grabbing photos from an app, you're on a tighter budget, or physical prints just aren't a priority for your vibe.

Skip Lite if: printed photo strips are part of the memory you want guests to take home or you have older guests who might struggle with the app.

The Basic Package

Basic is our most popular package, and honestly, it's popular for good reason. Adding the printer completely changes the energy.

Basic includes everything in Lite, plus:

  • Standard Canon printer with high-quality glossy prints
  • Supplies for roughly 300 4x6 photo prints included
  • One pre-selected layout, ready to go

This is the version where your aunt prints the silly group shot, holds it up, and immediately puts it on her fridge at home the next day. It's physical, it's instant, it's a keepsake. People love it.

Basic is your best bet if: you have under 100 guests, you want the classic photo booth experience with printed takeaways, and you're looking for the best bang for your buck.

A heads up on speed: the Basic printer is standard-speed, about 45 seconds per print. At peak moments like right after dinner when everyone rushes the booth at once, there might be a wait. In our experience, that usually just adds to the fun.

The Premium Package

Premium is for the events where you want everything to run flawlessly, or where the stakes are just a little higher.

Everything in Basic, plus:

  • High-speed professional printer, so lines move faster
  • Printer cuts out photo-strips automatically
  • Photo booth insurance included
  • 100 on-site duplicate reprints
  • Switch between two pre-selected layouts on the night (like a single portrait for cocktail hour and a 3-photo strip for the reception)
  • Access to more layout options overall

The high-speed printer is the thing most Premium customers say they're happiest they paid for. At a 200-person wedding, faster output is a really big deal.

Premium is your best bet if: you have 150 or more guests, you're hosting a wedding and want two different layouts for different parts of the night, you want the insurance just in case, or you're running a branded corporate event where delays would be a problem.

Real scenarios to help you decide

  • Small birthday dinner, 30 people at a restaurant: Lite. Intimate, casual, digital is plenty.
  • Graduation party, 100 guests: Basic. Enough people to make printing worthwhile, classic setup, everyone takes something home.
  • Wedding reception, 180 guests: Premium. High volume, flexibility on layouts, and the insurance is just good peace of mind on the most important day.
  • Corporate holiday party, 75 guests: Basic or Premium. If you want two branded layouts or a higher-polish experience, go Premium.
  • Quinceañera, 40 guests: Basic. Custom-designed photo strips are the perfect keepsake for this kind of celebration.

You can always upgrade later.

  • Book Basic and change your mind? You can upgrade to Premium in the customer portal up to 14 days before your event. So if you're torn, start with Basic and revisit it as your date gets closer.
